CHICAGO October 5, 2006– The first of nine multilingual, touch-screen “Virtual Concierge” work stations has been installed in the baggage claim area of O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 3. The kiosk provides hotel, transportation and airport information, including flight status and weather updates, in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Polish and Spanish. The kiosk also provides information about City of Chicago events and attractions from the Chicago Office of Tourism and features a video welcome message from Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Each Virtual Concierge has four workstations from which travelers can access up-to-the-minute visitor information. Once users have identified a specific venue, location or service, they can simply touch the screen to dial the telephone number and pick up the receiver for a direct, free-of-charge connection. Once connected, users can make hotel a reservation, order a rental car or talk with an airport customer service representative.
“More and more, we are finding that travelers seek and depend upon technology as the primary source of information about the airport and the City of Chicago,” said Aviation Commissioner Nuria I. Fernandez. “The Virtual Concierge puts relevant information at our passengers’ fingertips while also allowing us to communicate with them in various languages.”
This project was made possible through funding by Clear Channel. Additional Virtual Concierge workstations will be installed at O’Hare for a total of three in Terminal 1, two in Terminal 2, three in Terminal 3 and one in International Terminal T5. All nine are expected to be fully operational by 2008.
