LAX is the seventh busiest airport in the world and it served 59.8 million passengers and handled 1.8 million tons of freight and mail in 2008. Its central complex features nine passenger terminals connected by a U-shaped two-level roadway. Curbside baggage check-in is available on the upper departure level. Baggage claim is on the lower, arrival level.

Hotel Shuttles and Parking lot shuttles:
Many major airport-area hotels and privately operated parking lots provide courtesy transportation from LAX terminals. Stops for trams and shuttles for hotels and privately operated parking lots are located on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the red sign Hotel & Parking Lot Shuttles.
Note for travelers: All inbound buses and vans, plus the LAX shuttles, unload on the Upper/Departure Level. Frequent, free shuttle service is provided between terminals (approximately every 12 to 15 minutes, 24 hours a day) assist travelers in getting from one terminal to another to make airline connections. To use this service, travelers should board the Airline Connections ""A"" Shuttle under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections blue sign on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal.

LONG DISTANCE VAN:
The following long-distance door-to-door van company provides service from LAX to areas generally outside of Los Angeles County. Passengers are encouraged to contact the company first for more information. These vans pick up passengers on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the green sign FlyAway, Buses & Long Distance Vans.
Roadrunner Shuttle - Travels to Simi Valley (about 44 miles, or 71 kilometers, northwest of LAX), and to Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties (both northwest of LAX), with the drive taking from about one to two hours depending on the specific destination.
Note for travelers: All inbound buses and vans, plus the LAX shuttles, unload on the Upper/Departure Level. Frequent, free shuttle service is provided between terminals (approximately every 12 to 15 minutes) to assist travelers in getting from one terminal to another to make airline connections. PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
Free shuttle bus service is provided from the Aviation Metro Rail Station. Passengers wishing to use this shuttle bus service should wait under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections sign on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal, and board the ""G"" Shuttle.
Passengers also can take the ""C"" Shuttle from the same pick-up point to get to the Metro Bus Center, where they can board city buses serving the Los Angeles area. Information on city bus services is available by telephone on the Information Display Board in the baggage claim area in each terminal. In addition, passengers can obtain local transit information by calling (800) 266-6883.
Other public bus authorities serving LAX are Culver City Bus Lines, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, and Torrance Transit. (Click on each bus line name for contact information.) Passengers can pick up these buses at the Metro Bus Center in Lot C.

SCHEDULED BUSES:
The following scheduled buses provide service from LAX to various parts of Los Angeles and some surrounding regions. Passengers are encouraged to contact the companies first for more information. These buses pick up passengers on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the sign FlyAway, Buses & Long Distance Vans.

Airport Bus of Bakersfield - Travels to Bakersfield, located about a two hours' drive north of Los Angeles (800) 858-5000.

Antelope Valley Airport Express - Travels to Newhall, Palmdale and Lancaster in the Antelope Valley, with Lancaster (the furthest location) approximately 75 miles (121 kilometers) north of LAX (800) 251-2529, (805) 945-2529.

Santa Barbara Airbus - Travels to Santa Barbara, plus nearby Goleta and Carpinteria. The drive to these areas (located northwest of LAX, along the sea coast) from the airport usually takes between one and a half to two hours. (800) 423-1618 or www.sbairbus.com

Ventura County Airporter - Travels to Ventura and Oxnard, on the sea coast about one hour to one hour and a half northwest of LAX (805) 650-6600.

Passengers are encouraged to contact the companies first for more information. These vans pick up passengers on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the orange sign Shared Ride Vans.

TAXI:
Taxis can be found curbside on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the yellow sign indicating Taxis. Passengers will be presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations. Only authorized taxis with an official seal issued by City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation on each vehicle are permitted in the airport. It is illegal for any transportation services to solicit fares, and travelers using such services do so at their own risk.

Los Angeles - Car Parking

To help reduce vehicle traffic congestion in the Central Terminal Area, LAX now has a 24-hour LAX Cell Phone Waiting Lot, where motorists meeting arriving passengers can wait for free until passengers call to say they are ready to be picked up terminal curbside.
The 79-space lot is located at 9011 Airport Boulevard, north of the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Arbor Vitae/Westchester Parkway. The lot is located five minutes from the Central Terminal Area and easily accessible from the north and east by motorists using La Tijera, Sepulveda, Manchester and Century Boulevards to access LAX.

Vehicles in the LAX Cell Phone Waiting Lot must be attended at all times. No parking will be allowed in or around this new facility.

 

Valet Parking at Terminal 4

Valet parking is available in the Central Terminal Area on the lower/arrival level across from Terminal 4. This lot is convenient to American Airlines in Terminal 4, Delta Airlines in Terminal 5 and 30 airlines in the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Electric Vehicle Parking

Free parking is available for electric vehicles only at charging stations located in the lower/arrivals level of Parking Structures 1 and 6. As for Clean and Natural Gas-fueled vehicles or bi-fuel vehicles, there is no free parking privilege offered to these type of vehicles in the Central Terminal Area parking structures or economy lots.

 

Motorcycle Parking

Parking for motorcycles is free inside the central terminal area parking structures. When you enter, drive carefully around the entrance gate arm and DO NOT take a ticket. Do not park in a space for a car. You can park at the ends of rows, in corners, and in other spaces provided the motorcycle doesn't block passenger traffic, automobile traffic, doors, elevators, driveways, etc. When you exit, drive carefully around the exit gate arms. You can also enter/leave a lot via a sidewalk.

Los Angeles - Car Hire

Approximately 40 rental car companies operate out of LAX, with vehicle rental sites located off the airport. Many of these rental car companies provide phone links inside or near the baggage claim areas on the Lower/Arrival Level of the terminals so travelers can request a free shuttle pick up to reach the rental car sites.

Ten rental car companies are permitted to pick-up and drop-off their customers directly from the airline terminals using courtesy shuttles. These are the following companies:

These companies are allowed to meet arriving customers under the purple sign ""Rental Car Shuttles"" on the Lower/Arrival level islands outside baggage claim.

These customers will use the free LAX Shuttle Bus to reach the Off-Airport Rental Car Terminal to meet their rental car courtesy shuttle. Customers should meet the LAX Shuttle Bus ""Lot C"" on the Lower/Arrivals level island under the sign for LAX Shuttle to travel to the rental car terminal.

LAX Ambassadors Program:
The LAX Ambassadors will support airline personnel by assisting passengers with last-minute questions, facilitating their movement through and among the airport's nine terminals, and working to minimize unnecessary delays. Under the program, the Ambassadors focus their efforts at curbside check-in areas - points at which airline personnel report passengers most need information and assistance.

They will be identifiable by their uniforms of white polo shirts, khaki pants, navy blue windbreakers, white visors and LAX Ambassador badges. Equipped with cellular phones, the Ambassadors have immediate access to airport and air carrier information.

Since TSA has taken over the responsibility of passenger and checked baggage screening, all items left behind at security checkpoints are logged, collected and secured. Once passengers contact the TSA Lost & Found to claim and verify their item, arrangements are made for in person retrieval from 5757 W. Century Blvd.

Travelers Aid:
Since 1922, Travelers Aid Society has been helping people who have encountered problems while away from home. Travelers Aid has a professional social service staff, as well as volunteers in each airline terminal, reaching out to distressed passengers and those in need of information and direction.
Travelers Aid:
Directs travelers to points within LAX and to various community facilities.
Has information about accommodations and sightseeing attractions.
Assists in map reading and in accessing local transportation.
Provides the non-English speaking traveler with free access to the AT&T Language Line (offering interpretation of 130 languages and/or dialects).
Meets and accompanies individuals in need from one terminal to another.
Provides professional social service and emergency assistance to stranded travelers, military personnel, and runaways of all ages.

Travelers Aid is a nonprofit, private social service agency with a field office on site at LAX. The agency's professional staff provides crisis counseling and assistance in returning home, so that personal emergencies are resolved and prevented from escalating into more serious problems.
Travelers Aid receives referrals from its volunteers located at each terminal, as well as from airport and airline employees, the police, and outlying community agencies.

Remote Airline and Baggage Check-in:
Passengers departing Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on domestic flights to all 50 U.S. states can complete airline check-in of their baggage and receive airline boarding passes and baggage claim tickets before arriving at LAX.
Upon arrival at their airline terminal, passengers can proceed directly to passenger security screening. The remote check-in service provider transports the baggage to an LAX facility where they are inspected by Transportation Security Administration security screeners and then placed on board the passengers’ flights. This service is not available to passengers on flights to international destinations, nor to the U.S. territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Hours of Operation:
Airline and baggage check-in at the Van Nuys and Union Station FlyAway locations is accepted at least 3 hours before domestic flight departure from LAX. Hours at both locations are from 4:30 am to 7 pm daily, including weekends and holidays. Please contact the service provider, BAGS, Inc., for information on hours of operation at the Los Angeles Convention Center and the Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center. The FlyAway bus service does not provide transportation to LAX from the Los Angeles Convention Center or the Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center.

Participating Airlines:
The service is available on domestic flights operated by the following airlines: American Airlines, American Eagle, Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Horizon Air, Northwest Airlines, Ted Airlines, United Airlines, and United Express/Skywest Airlines. Additional airlines are expected to join the program soon.

Parking:
The Van Nuys FlyAway Bus Terminal offers parking for a $4 daily fee. Union Station FlyAway has parking available for a $6 daily fee at the adjacent Gateway Center Garage.

SHOPING:
46 shops in LAX offer many different shopping opportunities throughout the airport. Duty Free shopping is available in the Tom Bradley International terminal and in Terminals 2,3,4,5,6 and 7.

FOOD&DRINKS:
There is a choice of 64 places to go and dine or find something to drink. All the terminals have eateries.

ATM:
American Airlines Federal Credit Union operates ATMs located in each terminal on the Upper/Departure and Lower/Arrival levels.

Medical & First Aid:
A first aid station is located on the Upper/Departure Level of the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. For information, call (310) 215-6000.
In situations of a more serious nature, paramedic ambulance assistance can be summoned within minutes by contacting any airline employee or LAX Airport Police at (310) 646-7911 (in the Central Terminal Area).
If hospitalization is required, there are many hospitals providing 24-hour emergency service within minutes of the airport.
For travel shots or other non-emergency needs, the Centinela Airport Medical Clinic, located at 9601 South Sepulveda Boulevard, is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. For Information, call (310) 215-6020.
LAX has an Automated External Defibrillator program in place to assist persons who suffer from sudden cardiac arrest. These units are strategically located at security posts in the terminals beyond passenger screening stations and on bicycle patrol units. Airport Police officers have been fully trained in the use of this life-saving device so they can become first responders in an emergency.

The Travel Right Cafe in Terminal 4 Departure Level provides Inter access. Travelers with laptop computers, cellular phones and personal digital assistants can easily hook up to a port at no charge while enjoying refreshments. Parking:
All parking structure entrances on the Lower/Arrivals and Upper/Departure Levels are clearly marked with vertical clearances.
Parking Structures 1, 2A, 3, 4, 6 and 7 have a maximum vehicle height restriction of 8 feet, 2 inches.
Parking Structures 2B and 5 have a maximum vehicle height restriction of 7 feet.

Rampways:
Rampways are provided from street to sidewalk level in front of all terminals, and at entrances to other public buildings (such as the airport's unique Theme Building) where there are stairs to negotiate.

Elevators:
Elevators are located near public stairways and escalators in all passenger terminal buildings. Multi-level parking structures also contain elevators centrally positioned adjacent to terminals.

Telephone Booths:
Each passenger terminal provides public phones wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs. A Telecommunications Device (TDD) for the deaf or speech-impaired is available in all terminals near the Travelers Aid public information booths. Amplified telephones for the hearing-impaired are available in every terminal. All public telephones at LAX are hearing-aid compatible.
The TDD telephone numbers for information is (310) 417-0439 or the California Relay Service for the Deaf is (800) 735-2929. AT&T Public Phone 2000 units provide TDD users with a color monitor and keyboard at other locations in the terminals.

Restrooms:
Men's and women's restrooms located in all terminals contain a special extra-wide toilet stall equipped with side grab bars. Look for the disabled symbol. Restrooms equipped for the disabled (unisex) are available at Terminal 2 on the Upper/Departure Level and at Terminal 6 on the Lower/Arrival Level.

Wheelchairs:
All major scheduled airlines serving LAX provide wheelchair assistance upon request. To make sure a wheelchair is available at the proper time, it is best to reserve one in advance of a flight departure or arrival by contacting your airline. Wheelchair assistance also may be requested at airline ticket counters.

FlyAway Bus Service:
All buses on the FlyAway Bus Service, connecting the San Fernando Valley and LAX, are equipped with wheelchair lifts. Patrons should allow additional time to board the bus when scheduling a departure time. Drivers will assist patrons to get on and off the bus and will assist patrons with baggage.

Transportation Between Terminals For the Disabled:
If you have to travel from one terminal to another in order to make a flight connection, you can use the lift-equipped free LAX Shuttle ""A"" that operates continuously around the Central Terminal loop. When airline assistance is not available, contact the wheelchair shuttle service at Parking Lot C at (310) 646-6402 or (310) 646-8021.

Other Assistance:
Travelers Aid is available to facilitate services for the disabled. Inquire at their passenger information booths located on the Lower/Arrival Level adjacent to baggage claim in each terminal or call (310) 646-2270.
Recent security measures restrict public access beyond passenger screening to ticketed passengers only. However, airlines are allowing ""persons with special needs"" to be accompanied by health care assistants or guardians. If friends or family members want to accompany an elderly or disabled person to or from the aircraft gate, they need to obtain permission from the airline.

Special Assistance Vehicle:
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has a special assistance vehicle to transport passengers with disabilities or special needs between passenger terminals and remote gates located on the airport's west end.
In addition to providing transportation to individuals with disabilities, the special assistance vehicle is used to transport passengers on stretchers, organ transplant patients and seniors with specially equipped wheelchairs. Several air carriers are equipped to accommodate passengers with these types of medical needs.
To ensure safety and easy access, travelers enter the passenger compartment of the vehicle from the front and exit from the rear. The special assistance vehicle is parked directly beside the aircraft and the passenger compartment is raised to the level of the aircraft's door. Its safety features include a front platform that can pivot and self-adjust to eliminate gaps between the aircraft and the vehicle, and it also comes with a camera and microphone set for communications between the driver and the lift operator.
The vehicle can accommodate up to 21 passengers or seven wheelchairs. It is also equipped with electrical outlets to power various types of medical equipment. For light-sensitive passengers, the compartment's indoor lights can easily be dimmed to a comfortable level.
In addition to the special assistance vehicle, LAX offers a free standby van service to individuals with disabilities for service to and from economy Parking Lot C, or between the terminals. The van is equipped with a hydraulic wheelchair lift and is available upon request by calling (310) 646-6402 or (310) 646-8021. Also, LAX Shuttle buses that transport passengers from economy Parking Lots B and C to the terminals, as well as the Van Nuys FlyAway buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts.
